Lesson: God will show me the path
There are two paths of life: Gods' way and man's way. If you try to do things your way you are on your own. God only helps people who are trying to do things His way. God provides a set of General instruction for all Christian believers. You might think of them as a set of general guidelines for life. He also gives us specific instructions for our Personal Path.
A. The General guidelines of life are what God expects all of His children to do. God uses hundreds of verses in His Word to establish these standards. You really need to read and learn God's Word for yourself to get a real in depth understanding of what He expects. This is just a quick sample but the bottom line is: If God wouldn't do it, you shouldn't do it.
2 Corinthians 5: 15 - 20, (He gave us the ministry of reconciliation and made us ambassadors. God expects us to become a good representative of Christ and what He stands for.)|
|15. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again (Jesus).|
|16. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.|
|17. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!|
|18. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:|
|19. that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he committed to us the message of reconciliation.|
|20. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
|1 Corinthians 15: (KJV) While we should respect everyone, we need to ensure that we are not contaminated by the worldly people we know. Bad people want you to be as bad and ungodly as they are and they will try to trick you into doing sinful things.|
|33. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.(foul language is a sin)
|34. Awake to righteousness (your right standing with God), and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.|
While we use our language skills and other efforts to share God's Word. It should always be clear to everyone that we are the children of God and we do not do anything that is a sin, no matter what anyone else does.
|2 Corinthians 6: If you date, marry or do business with someone that is unsaved or a sinner you leave yourself open for the devil's attack.|
|14. Be ye not unequally yoked (married, date, tied or bound) together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath lights with darkness?
|Ephesians 5:God sets His rules for your benefit|
| 1. Therefore be imitators of God – copy Him and
follow His example – as well-beloved children (imitate their father).|
| 2. And Walk in Love – esteeming and delighting in one another – as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God (for you, so that it became) a sweet fragrance.
(In other words, if God would not do it you should not do it. If you would not tell your pastor or your mother about it, you should not be doing it.)
|8. For once you were darkness, but now you are light
in the Lord; walk as children of light – lead the lives of those native-born to the Light.|
|9. For the fruit – the effect, the product – of Light, the Spirit, (consist) in every form of kindly goodness,
up rightness of heart and trueness of life.|
|10. And try to learn (in your experience) what is
pleasing to the Lord; - (Let your lives be constant)proofs of what is most acceptable to Him.
B. Your Personal Path: To learn what your personal path is requires you to spend time with God. While God has given you a brain and you do not need God's permission to go to the bathroom or get something to eat or any other day to day thing. You should seek His guidance in every big decision you make.
Psalm 23: Notice how personal this psalm is, full of I, me, and my. A personal relationship full of trust. This kind of relationship comes from spending time with God and learning that you can trust Him anytime because He really does Love you.|
| 1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not lack.|
| 2. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside
the still and restful waters.|
| 3. He refreshes and restores my life; He leads me in the paths
of righteousness for His names sake.|
| 4. Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear or dread no evil; for You are with me; Your rod (to protect)
and Your staff (to guide), they comfort me (us).|
| 5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.|
| 6. Surely or only goodness, mercy and unfailing love shall follow me
all the days of my life; and through the length of days the house of
the Lord shall be my dwelling place.
James 1: 5 - 8, Ampl., If you have questions, then God is the answer guy. You should understand that God talks to you in a still sweet voice in your heart. The devil talks to you through your mind.|
| 5. If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to every one liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or fault finding, and it will be given him.|
| 6. Only it must be in faith that he asks, with no wavering - no hesitation, no doubting. For the one who wavers (hesitated, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea, that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.|
| 7. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,|
| 8. [For being as he is] a man of two minds - hesitating, dubious, irresolute - [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything (he thinks, feels, decides)
1 Corinthians 14: 29 - 33, Ampl. (While these verses are talking about inspired talking or teaching they also apply to any situation where any spirit, good or bad, is trying to operate through you. If you are confused or if the spirit wants you to sin, the devil is in the works somewhere and you should not act on what the devil is telling you. God will alway do what God's Word says in love and patience. If you feel rushed or unable to think about the situation it is not from God. )|
|29. So, let two or three prophets speak - those inspired to preach or teach - while the rest pay attention and weigh and descern what is said.|
|30. But if an inspired revelation comes to another who is sitting by, then let the first one be silent.|
|31. For in this way you can give testimony - prophesying and thus interpreting the divine will and purpose - one by one, so that all may be instructed and all may be stimulated and encouraged;|
|32. For the spirit of the prophets [the speakers in tongues] are under the speaker's control [and subject to being silenced as may be necessary],|
|33. For He [Who is the source of their prophesying] is not a God of confusion and disorder but of pease and order. As [is the practise] in all the churches of the saints (God's people),|
C. God is the source of life. God's path always leads to victory and all manner of good.
John 14: (Ampl.)|
|6. Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.
John 10:, (Satan is the destroyer of life)|
|10. The thief (Satan) comes only in order that he may steal and may
kill and may destroy. I (Jesus) came that they (you) may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance -to the full, till it overflows.
|11. I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd risks and lays down his
(own) life for the sheep (you).|
Satan deceives people and leads them astray in many ways. He tries filling them with anything that leads people away from Christ. Anything that is more important to you then Christ is something that has become your false God. Some people put sports above Christ, others have been deceived into believing that tarot cards, witch craft and weegie boards are from God. They are not. Only by filling yourself with God's Word "the Bible" will you be successful with Christ.
Acts 4: (Jesus is the only way to God)|
|12. And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there
is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved. Also John 10: all|
Luke 16: 13 - 15, (make up your mind, you are either for God or against Him)|
|13. No servant is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate
the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to
the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon(the world)|
John 9: (Jesus gave us access to God)|
|31. We know that God does not listen to sinners; but if any one is God-fearing and a worshipper of Him (Jesus) and does
His will, He listens to him.
D. God shows me how to stay on the right path.
Psalms 119:, (God's Word tells you exactly what to do)|
|35. Make me to go in the path of Your commandments, for in them do I delight.|
|36. Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness, [robbery, sensuality, unworthy riches].|
[Ezek. 33:31; Mark 7:21, 22; 1 Tim. 6: 10; Heb. 13:5]
|105. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. [Prov. 6: 23]|
|130. The entrance and unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding - discernment and comprehension - to the simple.|
|131. I open my mouth and panted (with eager desire), for I longed for Your commandments.|
|132. Look upon me, be merciful unto me and show me favor, as is Your way to those who love Your name.|
|133. Establish my steps and direct them by (means of) Your word; let not any iniquity have dominion over me.|
|134. Deliver me from the oppression of man; so will I keep Your precepts [hearing, receiving, loving and obeying them]
|19. The way of the wicked is as deep darkness; they do not know at what they stumble. [John 12:35].|
|20. My son, attend to my (God's) words; consent and submit to my sayings.|
|21. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.|
|22. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.|
|23. Keep your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
John 14: (Amplified) (Jesus even gave us the Holy Spirit to help keep us on the correct path.|
|12. I (Jesus) assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if any one steadfastly
believes in Me (Jesus), he will himself be able
to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I (Jesus)
go to the Father. (You have the power of Jesus in you, because the Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost live in you.)|
|13. And I will do - I Myself will grant - whatever you may ask in My
(Jesus) name so that the Father may be glorified and extolled
in (through) the Son.|
|14. (Yes) I will grant - will do for you - whatever you shall ask in
My name (Jesus).|
|15. If you [really]love Me you will keep (obey) My commands.|
|16. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor,
Advocate, Strengthener and Standby) that He may remain with you forever,|
|17. The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because
it does not see Him, nor know and recognize
Him, But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you and will
be in you.|
|18. I will not leave you orphans - comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless - I will come [back]
|19. Just a little while now and the world will not see Me any more
(because He will be crucified), but you will
see Me; because I live, you will live also.|
|20. At that time - when that day comes - you will know [for yourself]
that I am in My Father, and you [are] in
Me, and I [am] in you.|
|21. The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me, and whoever [really]
loves Me will be loved by My Father. And I [too] will love him
and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him - I will let Myself
be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him. (in all things, always, even: protection, health, etc. Matthew 28:18-20; also John 14: 23-26)
E. God shows us the correct attitude to have in life. He tells us what we should and should not do.
| 1. Blessed is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.|
| 2. But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law - the precepts, instructions, the teachings of God - he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [2 Tim. 3: 16; Gal. 3: 1 - 29; Rom. 13: 8 - 10.]|
| 3. And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth his fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not fade or wither, and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity. [Jer. 17: 7, 8.]|
| 4. Not so the wicked [those disobedient and living without God are not so]. But they are like the chaff [worthless, dead, without substance] which the wind drives away.|
| 5. Therefore the wicked, those disobedient [and living without God], shall not stand [justified] in the judgment; nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God].|
| 6. For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God's will] shall perish.
Romans 1: 16 - 32, (Ampl.)|
|16. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ; for it is God's power working unto salvation to every one who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek,|
|17. For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith.|
|18. For God's [holy] wrath and indignation are revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who in their wickness repress and hinder the truth and make it inoperative.|
|19. For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them.|
|20. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made. So [men] are without excuse.|
|21. Because when they knew and recognized Him as the God, they did not honor and glorify him as God, or give Him thanks. But instead they became futile and godless in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened.|
|22. Claiming to be wise, they became fools.|
|23. And by them the glory and majesty and excellence of the immortal God were exchanged for and represented by images, resembling mortal man and birds and beasts and reptiles.|
|24. Therefore God gave them up in the lust of their [own] hearts to sexual impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, abandoning them to the degrading power of sin.|
|25. Because they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, Who is blessed forever! Amen.|
|26. For this reason God gave them over and abandoned them to vile affections and degrading passions. For their women exchanged their natural function for an unnatural and abnormal one;|
|27. And the men also turned from natural relations with women and were set ablaze with lust for one another, men committing shameful acts with men and suffering in their own bodies and personalities the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong doing and going astray, which was [their] fitting retribution.|
|28. And so, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or approve of Him or consider Him worth the knowing, God gave them over to a base and condemned mind to do things not proper or decent but loathsome;|
|29. Until they were filled with every kind of unrighteousness, iniquity, grasping and covetous greed, [and] malice. [They were] full of envy and jealousy, murder, strife, deceit and treachery, ill will and cruel ways. [They were] secret backbiters and gossipers,|
|30. Slanderers, hateful to and hating God, full of insolence, arrogance [and] boasting; inventors of new forms of evil, disobedient and undutiful to parents.|
|31. [They were] without understanding, conscienceless and faithless, heartless and loveless [and] merciless.|
|32. Through they are fully aware of God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them themselves but approve and applaud others who practice them.|
