Who is Jesus? 39 verses

This lesson is 5 pages long

Son of God and SAVIOR:

1 John 1:7 (esv), 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1 John 4:9-14 (esv), 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (Also Colossians 1:3, 15, 19; John 8:58-59, John 1:1-14)
John 10:30-33 (esv), 30I and the Father are one.” 31Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” 33“We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

JESUS WAS RESURRECTED:

Luke 24:6-7 (esv), 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
John 11:25-26 (esv), 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
(also: 1 Cor. 15: all)
Matthew 20:19 (esv), 19And deliver Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and whipped and crucified, and He will be raised[to life] on the third day.
Romans 4:24 - 25 (esv), 24But [they were written] for our sakes too. [Righteousness, standing acceptable to God] will be granted and accredited to us also who believe - trust in, adhere to and rely on- God who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification- our acquittal, and to make our account balanced, absolving us from all guilt before God.
(Also Matt. 27:50-54)

HAD POWER TO FORGIVE SINS:

Acts 5:31 (esv), 31God exalted Him (Jesus) to His right hand to be Prince and Leader and Savior and Deliver and Preserver, in order to grant repentance to Israel and to bestow forgiveness and release from sins.
(Also Matt. 9:2-6, Luke 7:47-50)
1 John 2:2 (esv), 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Romans 5:8 (esv), 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
2 Corinthians 5: (niv), 21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
John 14:6 (esv), 6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

MEDIATOR: between God and man

1 Timothy 2:5 (esv), 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
Hebrews 12:24 (esv), 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Romans 6:23 (esv), 23For the wages which sin pays is death; but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord. Also John 20:31, John 16:23-26

JESUS our SHEPARD:

1 Peter 5:4 (esv), 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
John 10:11, 15 (esv),
11"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep
Hebrews 13:20-21 (esv), 20Now may the God of Peace - [Who is] the Author and Giver of peace - and Who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepard of the sheep, by the blood [that sealed, ratified] the everlasting agreement [covenant, testament] 21Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be, and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, the Messiah; to Whom be the glory forever and ever - to the ages of the ages. (Also 1 Peter 5:4, John 10:11-18)

JESUS the HEALER:

Luke 7:1-17 (esv),
Jesus Heals a Centurion's Servant
1After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. 3When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, 5for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.” 6And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. 7Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. 8For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow's Son
11Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” 17And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country. (Another good story, this is a Long Story starting at John 20:30 to John 21:25)
Luke 4:40-41 (esv), 40Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. 41And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. (Also John 4:46-54)
Mark 1:34 (esv), 34And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

JESUS the WORKER OF MIRACLES:

John 6:5-14 (esv), 5Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”6He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.”8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.11Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.12And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.”13So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.14When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”
(These are rather long stories from John 2:1-11, Matt. 14:22-33)

HE IS TO BE WORSHIPPED:

Matthew2:2 (esv), 2Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East at its rising, and have come to worship Him. (Also Matt. 14:32-33)
Matthew 2:11 (esv), 11On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
John 9:38 (esv), 38Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
Phil. 2:5-11 (esv), 5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,7but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

JESUS the TEACHER:

Luke 24:27 (esv), 27Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
2 John 1:9 (esv), 9Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.
John 7:16 (esv), 16So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.
John 3:2 (esv), 2Who (Nicodemus) came to Jesus at night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know and are certain that You are come from God [as] a teacher; for no one can do these signs - these wonder works, these miracles, and produce the proofs - that You do, unless God is with Him. (Also Matt. 4:23, Matt. 7:28-29.)

JESUS the REWARDER:

Romans 2:6 (esv), 6God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”
Hebrews 11:1-6 (esv), 6But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must (necessarily) believe that God exists and that He is the Rewarded of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him (out). (Also John 15: 9-16, Romans 8:14-18, Colossians 3: 23-24)
1 John 5: 12-13 (esv), 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

JESUS LIVES IN BELIEVERS:

2 Corinthians 13:5 (esv), 5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
Galatians 2:20 (esv), 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 8: 10-18 (esv), 11And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you. (Also: 2 Corinthians 4: 6-7, Galatians 1: 15-16, Galatians 4: 19, Colossians 1:27, 2 Thessalonians 1:10, Ephesians 3:17)

WE ARE TO BE THE PHYSICAL EXAMPLE OF JESUS LIVING THROUGH US:

Romans 8: 29 (esv), 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
2 Cor. 3: 16-18 (esv), 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
18And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
1 John 4: 17 (esv), 17In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment - with assurance and boldness to face Him - because as He is (today), so are we in this world.
(also: John 14: 12-15, John 17: 18, John 20: 21, Matt. 10:25, 1 Cor. 10:31, Romans 12: 2, Cor. 6: 17-18)
