Create your own bible alphabets using Scriptures from the bible. Think of Bible Alphabets A thru Z or make a Personal Scripture Acronym like "Anne" Personal Scripture Acronym - Anne A - all scripture is given by inspiration of God N - No weapon form against me shall prosper N - Neither give place to the devil. E - Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise. |
2. | Put different activities on index cards, such as turn around in a circle, lay on the floor, pat your head, stand on a chair, skip across the room, stand in a corner, whisper it, say it to a friend in class, etc. Have each student draw one of the index cards and do the activity listed on it while saying the memory verse. My boys class loves the activity and saying the verse with it. |
3. | Get loads of balloons and write each word of the verse on each one then go through it a few times starting to pop some of the balloons. |
4. | Catch the Memory Verse Game: Having all students sit in a circle, using a child's playball, have the children pass the ball clockwise to the next child. As each child passes the ball they say one word of the memory verse. Continue passing the ball until the children have memorized the verse. Another version would be to roll the ball across the circle to another child. |
5. | Have the kids sit in a circle take whatever memory verse you are using that day, lean to the first kid and whisper the memory verse in their ear have them pass it on until you get to the last child. Since it is a new verse it usually gets messed up by the last kid, have him or her say it out loud. This is a wonderful example of how God's word can become twisted and mangled until there is almost nothing left of what he is trying to teach. |

Here's another memory verse game I played with my kids(ages 8-14) As an example I will use 1Peter 2:9 I first broke down the verse and printed each phrase with a picture that in some way goes along with it...for "chosen generation" I put pictures of babies around the phrase. Then, I cut out each phrase and pasted them onto different color contruction paper and mixed them up. Then, the children had to find the phrase that went after, "But you are a..."
The kids were then split into two teams and each time they got the right phrase, I gave them 5 points. I gave them an extra 5 points if they could explain what the phrase meant (if possible). I also had a Bonus Point section where I put vocabulary words like,
